First, for those that don't get my acronym... F2P means Free to Play. I'm reading this article over at MMOHUT.com that reads:
We have already confirmed that Turbine has held serious discussions internally about converting Lord of the Rings Online to a micro transaction based game, but until an official announcement is made there’s no way to be sure whether anything will happen. The folks at Turbine are smart enough to realize that the free to play market is huge – huge enough to attract big players like Electronic Arts (Battlefield Heroes) and Sony (Free Realms), so it wouldn’t be too surprising if LOTRO actually did go free to play. With the enormous success that Turbine has had with Dungeons and Dragons Online, it would make a lot of financial sense for Turbine to embrace the free to play model for Lord of the Rings Online.
I agree with this in one sense and disagree in another. I think the fact that LOTRO has stayed afloat in WoW's shadow (Where many fell) and kept a great player base is reason enough to not move to F2P. I say that, but I'll also say this ... If it's F2P I may give it another shot. I never made it very far in LoTRO. I was in BETA and have started 3/4 trials, but just can't stick with it.
What do you think? F2P or not F2P?
Here's a video or two of the latest expansions and gameplay for your enjoyment.
