There's an article over on USA Today's GameHunter section about the FTC getting involved in the blocking of Mature rated video games. The article refers to this FTC (Federal Trade Commission) report. It was referring to undercover actions by the FTC to attempt to purchase M rated games by underage kids. The Video Games' industry did pretty good compared to the other entertainment industries. You can see all the numbers on the USA Today article.
Highly opinionated post coming up ... So hold on to yourselves.
It's a great read, so check it out. This begs the question though of parenting. When is it time to draw the line between the government policing our children and parent involvement? Tax money that alot of parent's complain about is utilized in regulating these types of things, so how much is it worth for you not to be fully involved in your children's lives? As a parent, a gamer, and a well educated United States' citizen; when my children ask to play a game... I research it before buying it for them. Crimm you ask, "when they get older and start buying their own video games ... How do you regulate it then?" That's a fair a question, and since my children can't work yet, I can't honestly tell you how I will handle it at this time, but I can tell you how I plan on handling it. The way to know what games your children are playing is the same way to know what they are doing on the internet, and know what they do day to day ... Stay involved, ask questions, and teach them right from wrong. That way when you aren't there, they will know that trying to pick up an M rated game and sneakily play it in their room ... Is a bad idea.
Okay I'm getting off the soapbox. What do you guys think about the government being involved more and more? In my opinion it's the fault of actually most of the people that complain about it.... because they are usually the ones that won't take the action to solve the situation the government is having to fix...
Thoughts? :)
