Another big topic a buzz today is the rumors behind the newest iPhone update. The iPhone OS 4.0 is causing quite a stir around the technology market. According to the Apple Insider:
Reports about a forthcoming update to the iPhone OS continue to grow, with a new batch of rumors claiming the iPhone will gain "new ways" of multitasking and syncing;
Mashable also reports:
When Apple unveils iPhone 4.0 software (still just a rumor) next week, we might be getting multitasking/background running applications, multi-touch support OS-wide, UI changes, and contact and calendar sync options, according to Boy Genuis Report.
Keep in mind though that this is still a rumor. Boy Genius has been known to be wrong before in the past according to the Apple insider.
While Boy Genius Report has a respectable track record in forecasting iPhone-related announcements tied to its AT&T sources, its predictions pertaining to Apple have often fallen off the mark. Last year the site incorrectly indicated iTunes 9 would add Blu-ray support and said Apple would create a social media consolidation application, both times citing a "reliable" source.
Don't get too excited, but realizing that one of the biggest thing that hacking your iPhone does is multi-tasking you would think that Apple would take notice. I do know this though, IF/when they implement this there will be unhappy.
- End users will be upset because now their iPhones are running multiple apps and are slower
- AT&T will be pissed because people will background download more than they are now
- Apple CSR's will be upset because both will be calling constantly :)
What do you think? Yes or No on this one?
