BioWare parent company Electronic Arts said Monday that Legendary Pictures acquired the theatrical feature film rights to the Mass Effect science-fiction series. Warner Bros. will distribute the movie worldwide under a co-production and co-financing agreement with Legendary.
After a little research I ran across the Legendary Pictures Press section of their website which confirms Gamasutra's claim.
As most video game converted to movies have shown us ... Legendary Pictures is walking a fine line. I have high hopes for them, but at the same time the past failures of other films keeps ringing in the back of my mind.
What do you guys think? Lots of web sites are reporting that Mass Effect has tons of depth and there are lots of elements to build on. The issue comes in when they start "building" on those elements and start translating them to their "taste". As long as Uwe Boll doesn't direct it ... I think we'll be good to go! ;)

In celebration of Geek Pride Day I decided to put together today's post on the 5 Geekiest things on the internet. This one will be highly opinionated, so if you have some geeky things to share, please comment below! For those of you that don't know; there are multiple types of Geek. I thought about taking a stab at listing all the types of geeks out there: Gaming geeks, Anime Geeks, Tech Geeks, etc etc. I think this image sums it up pretty damn good:
Anyway, I think the best way to cover this celebration would be to find one thing in each of our wonderful categories that will best display it's geekiness. Tell me how I do in each of these categories: Anime, MMO, Tech, Gaming, Funny and Movies.
First up is Movies. This is a famous "70 minute Movie Review" by RedLetterMedia. Not only is it funny, but it covers a controversial movie for us geeks. That's Episode 1: Phantom Menace. Enjoy (I compiled it for your guys):
Next up is the Funny category. What geek doesn't love fail videos? I mean seriously? Watching people fail is what gives us geeks pleasure in life. Here's a compilation (playlist) of a giant pot of fail!
Rounding the next corner is the Anime category. This will be a difficult one, because Anime geeks are hard to please with their Sub vs Dub arguments, etc etc. :) I think the best way to represent Anime geeks is with Cosplay. Enjoy:
Coming up next is our loving and head shooting friends ... The Gaming geeks! When it comes to Gaming geeks one thing sets us apart, and that's gameplay footage. With the recent Halo: Reach Beta reaching 2.7 Million gamers; I think it's clear what gameplay footage we need to focus on today.
They are keeping this server running, so we can't forget about the Tech geeks. The Tech geeks and their Linux/Apple vs Microsoft arguments is going to make this another hard category to satisfy. I think this comic will serve it best:
At last but certainly not least we have what's gathering all the people around the world; the MMO category. This is probably the hardest category to fill. Why you ask? Because none of us MMO players can stick with just one MMO, nor can we agree on what movie, book, game, or meme should have an MMO based on it next. WoW is still the biggest from what I've seen from the numbers, so I think it only fitting to serve up "The Blind". In my opinion this is the best WoW/MMO video ever made. I hope you enjoy.

The upcoming Third person hack and slash Dante's Inferno is being accompanied by a Blue Ray movie. For those of you that haven't kept up with the game itself... the game is based on Dante a Crusader. Dante's wife sells her soul for his absolution. Unfortunately, for Satan ... That won't fly with Dante and you start out on an epic journey to save her. Here's the E3 trailer to the game:
The movie is an animated action movie. IGN has taken time to review the movie, so stop by there and take a few minutes to read it before picking it up. Here's the official movie trailer:
From what I've played of Dante's Inferno (Only the demo right now), this movie plays right along with the game. If you don't want any spoilers, then don't watch the movie prior to the game's ending. I have seen parts of the movie and suggest that everyone pick it up.
SciFi Wire presents the latest in "The Last Airbender" trailers. This one is in the form of a super bowl ad.
This is one that I've been drooling over since I caught a 30 second teaser in a movie theater preview. This is one I'll definitely go to the theaters and see! If you haven't watched the cartoon/anime then here's a description for you:

Tekken (鉄拳?, lit. Iron Fist) is a series of fighting games developed and published by Namco. Originally an arcade game, versions exist for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, WonderSwan, and Game Boy Advance. According to the NY Daily News Avatar has broken a new record. The ability to KILL someone. Yes that's right... Avatar is so awesome that it caused a Taiwanese man to have a stroke. The article states:
In neighboring Taiwan, a 42-year-old man with a history of hypertension died of a stroke earlier this month that is being blamed on overstimulation from viewing "Avatar" in 3-D, Agence France Presse reports.
How many people can claim that? I can see James Cameron at dinner parties now: "Oh yeah! Well my movie caused one man's head to explode!"
All kidding a side our well wishes go to the man's family and friends.
The article goes on to state the the movie is causing political [Rumored] unrest in China. Stating:
The Chinese government is limiting the number of 2-D theaters that can show the blockbuster "Avatar" - because of fears that the enormously popular movie will cause political unrest, London's Guardian reports.

If you saw Avatar, you know it was a good movie.... Hell if you watch T.V. or read the news you know it was a good movie. Sometimes with good movies ... comes greed. Thanks to a friend of mine, I have evidence that James Cameron may be getting greedy with a Avatar:Trilogy.
An AICN tipster who recently attended a Q&A session and Avatar screening with Cameron sent in the following scoop:
Don’t know if this is newsworthy, but I just saw a Variety Screening Series showing of Avatar at the Arclight theater in Hollywood tonight, followed with a Q&A with James Cameron and two of his visual effects artists. One of the artists mentioned that they’ll never again do this for the first time, meaning that everything they did in the making of Avatar was just a lot of instinctive grasping in the dark. Cameron agreed with him. He also told him to expect the studio to want another one, as they’d passed the billion $ mark. A second film will be easier, as the technology now exists, thanks to the movie. The moderator asked if there *would* be an Avatar sequel. To which Cameron answered that the plan had always been to make a trilogy of films. Finally, Cameron actually said it: “Yes, there’ll be another.”
As I said, I’m not sure how newsworthy this is, but thought I’d pass it on.
So there you have it. James Cameron has kinda sorta announced a sequel to Avatar.

n other Avatar news James Cameron spoke to MTV about potential sequels. He says that he’s already got an arc figured out, and that if a sequel goes ahead it shouldn’t take another 4 years to get made:
Cameron made clear that the next film won’t be a prequel, recounting previous backstory, but will begin after the events of the initial movie. “We’ll follow Jake and Neytiri,” he confirmed.
In fact, Cameron intends to follow the couple for another two films. “I have a trilogy-scaled arc of story right now, but I haven’t really put any serious work into writing a script,” he said.
The next two films, however, won’t necessitate the four years of production time that “Avatar” took to perfect its motion-capture technology and computer-generated environments and beings. “Part of what we set out to do is create a world and create these characters,” Cameron said. “From the time we capture and finish the capture, it’s literally nine to 10 months to get the CG characters working, to get their facial musculature working. … So now we have Jake, we have Neytiri. Sam can step right back into it, the characters will fit them like a glove, and we’ll just go on. So a lot of the start-up torque that had to be done for one movie really makes more sense if you play it out across several films.”
I loved Avatar, don't get me wrong. I have a feeling though that Cameron may push the envelope here on milking the series. Let's hope not. What do you guys think?
